The Name Of The Wind

Scope

Book Cover Illustration

Fan art cover redesign for the New York Times bestseller fantasy novel “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss.

Collaborative project with Graphic Artist & Designer Catherine Charbonneau.

The Concept

The main character, Kvothe, is at the peak of a stone bridge, contemplating the archives and the university for the first time.

The Omethi River flows in the middle. Wind wraps in the upper part, while fire wraps in the bottom.

The fire changes color from red to blue, suggesting the presence of something ominous.

The Process

From Sketch to Lineart to typography and colors, the process was iterative, with Franz working on Procreate and Catherine working on illustrator and Photoshop.
