This post is part of the 100 Sleeves: One hundred Album Covers Re-Designed project, a personal challenge I created for myself at the end of 2020. The goal is to create 100 album covers inspired by the music I’m enjoying at the moment.
My millennial ass wasn’t aware of Heart’s genius up until recently. Of course, I knew hits like “Barracuda” or “Crazy on You”, but I never sat to give Heart a proper listen. And oh boy they were the thing I didn’t know I was missing.
For the past week, I’ve been binging on their music, both studio, and live recordings.
I was impressed by the quality of their debut album “Dreamboat Annie” and I particularly like the order of the songs: Every ballad is followed by a rocker or groovy theme thus one never gets bored.

About the album cover art
I don’t need much convincing to draw an anatomical human heart, so I went that route when making this cover. After all, Heart’s debut album deserves to have a heart right up front.
To make things a bit surreal I added a mashup of the Wilson Sisters’ faces with Ann (lead vocals, flute) to the left and Nancy (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) to the right. I kept most of the illustration flat and added a simple shading to the face to make it the main focal point.
I also had lots of fun looking up for rounded fonts to evoke the 70s era. I ultimately fell in love with Opake by Natanael Gama.
With the 50th anniversary of this album coming soon I thought it would be more than appropriate to imagine the vinyl press in yellow gold.
