100 Sleeves Challenge: Shake, Shook, Shaken

Original Cover Design

Sleeve #23 for my project #100albumsleeves 😱

So on my birthday week, Google photos reminded me that in 2017 I celebrated by going to a fancy movie theater. A friend suggested we watched the French horror drama film “Raw” as she was curious about my reaction to it. I remember being a bit shocked but really liking it.

One of the things that caught my attention about the film was the soundtrack, especially a song called “Despair, Hangover & Ecstasy“. That’s how I discovered The Dø and their album Shake, Shook, Shaken, and it became the soundtrack of my summer in 2017. I have very fond memories of that year and that’s why I chose this album this week.

One of my favorite songs right now is “Anita No!” and researching about the lyrics Olivia said she wrote about “…a half-Mexican, half-Japanese hitwoman, and she must never fall in love – it would hinder her career.” I just fell in love with that idea and found the name of the character to be just genius 😂 . I later found this statement by the band regarding the album:

“We wanted a very epic, heroic album, a bit comic book, a bit manga: a superhero record.”

Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy – (The Dø)

So it was a no-brainer for me to draw No Anita in a comic style. It was also a very fun thing to do. 👊🏽💥
