100 Sleeves Challenge: Marsden & Richardson

original cover design

This post is part of the 100 Sleeves: One hundred Album Covers Re-Designed project, a personal challenge I created for myself at the end of 2020. The goal is to create 100 album covers, a new one every week, inspired by the music I’m enjoying at the moment.

After binge-listening to @bandofskullsofficial ‘s new project “Marsden & Richardson” I couldn’t help it and make new fan art.

The album is a calm retro beauty, completely different from their previous work. My fav song is “Beautiful Love”.

Though many of the songs include a wide arrange of instruments you can feel their conception with only guitar and voice. I bet it sounds terrific live and could be put to good use in an acoustic concert.

My art piece is a derivative work from many sources:

The retro vibe of the music reminded me of the paintings of Coco Dávez from whom I drew inspiration to create a portrait.

As a reference, I used an old photo of Russel and Emma by John Ros but changed her hair to match her current style. And the colors I chose are based on the original album cover.
