This week I chose an album from a band that I was obsessed with during my teenage years: Avalancha by Héroes del Silencio.
I have many fond memories of their music: Camping with the boy scouts, in the car with my parents, a hot summer day playing Zuma while my grandma sat on her sewing machine,… to name a few.
To my surprise and after all these years of listening to their music, the lyrics hit different now.
I was going through a lot of self-reflection, redefining what I value and what I want from life, at moments doubting my purpose or calling. So specially a couple of songs called “Deshacer el Mundo” (Undo the world) and “Morir Todavía” (Yet to die) hitted hard.
They talk about carving your own path and having your own ideas in a world where we are constantly influenced by others’ ideas. About living life NOW that we have yet to die and not having regrets when our time comes (pretty much to die alive).

I was compelled to create a mandala for this cover. Later I found that Carl Jung claimed that the urge to make mandalas emerges during moments of intense personal growth. Considering how I was feeling, I was mind blown by this synchronicity🤯
Avalancha is HdS’s last studio album and I decided to make the mandala based on 9 segments, as the number 9 in numerology represents “Completion”. It symbolically represents a culmination of wisdom and experience and buzzes with the energy of both endings and new beginnings (Suiting, as after the band disbanded some of their members began new projects).
Somewhere else I found that odd-numbered mandalas expand energy promoting a creative space. Number 9 in specific represents the creative mind. And I was feeling creative 🤩 so I decided to make my own version of the band logo: 🐉Two dragons forming an H entangled by an S🐉.
Needless to say, I’m super happy with the result and I’m grateful for yet another day of making art. I have no doubt, that while I have yet to die, I will be following the artistic path.
